Understanding/introduction to maps and other artists
The main topic today's lesson was to understand what to do about the brief. Some of my friends were unsure as well as myself. Malcolm explained that we should at least understand the concept what has been pointed across.
I understood how to create a collage of all of the collected leaflets around the area of BS1. There is artists who i will reference from the lesson's powerpoint presentation.
The lesson then was structured about the maps and how they are used by the public to guide them through a city like for example BS1. We looked at other maps that had difficult understanding and that without a key to show what's what is considered as a piece of abstract art, because it has no meaning only what other people interpret. I understand that the designer has to create something that the audience can reate to such as making sure it has a key and the use of visual colours can help your eyes focus on a particular line.
The IT technician Mel can in an gave us all the run down of how to use the room with the mac's.

Angelica Paez
This image shows drawn images on top of an old letter. Her style is very creative as there is uses of all different kinds of media like for example the old letter as a background, the many different colours that attract your attention and also the hand drawn image of the small bird. The hand writing from the letter also gives this piece a very unique and great concept. The main metaphor for this collage is that it tells us that it was a letter that was posted, taken "Via Air Mail" also a reference to it flying is a bird. This piece is something I could incorporate into to my work as it almost tells us a small story. By using different ranges of ephemera in the area of BS1 i could make a story and is something that i would use as a possible outcome.

Anthony Zinonos
Very simple and genius pieces of work of just cutting and pasting images on top of a backgrounds. In this image you can definitely see the best out of creating collage's and what the potential will be. I love the way how it's only a piece of coloured piece of paper, with a carefully cut out car. The image created is comedy and this artist has completely understood how simplistic it can be and that less is more . Anthony is the most innovatieve collage creator , and I am really glad to have referenced this great artist.
I will continue to look more in depth to his work as it is very consistant in design style and there are so many different possibilities to create amazing outcomes.
Jamie Reid
A British artist, Jamie's work is very interesting and points of views he has with society. His work I will be analysing is the "God Save The Queen" album cover for "The Sex Pistol" during this time of punk rock was the type of fashion and this band was the height of attention. The front image shows a defaced picture of Queen Elizabeth, its a very risky piece of art work he has created as editing the Queens face could cause outrage towards the royals and the public as it was very disrespectful.
The words that get to you as a public out cry of what punk is. I believe punk is not what your doing, it's about who's done this in history, maybe a point to society and his general opinion of what he has libelled the band as; punk, not really caring much, taking in there stride.
The art piece is very eye catching as there are cut up letters in various different fonts from newspapers creating a type of text, indicating political, satire. With the proud flag of our union jack it's hard to miss with all of the colours. From viewing most of jamie work he really wants to create a print by outlining a more informal and personal touch so that the public understand and can relate to this toward a government. I could use the method that he has used into cut up letters from newspapers to create my text on my collage, as it would look very bold and effective.
