Bs1 Visit 3
Today I went down town again. This time I sat down in a cafe and noted down what I could see smell and hear around me within the area. I also went on another pathway of exploring the many different types of walking paths around and I think I now managed to get them all now. I have also managed to get all but 1 letter of the accidental alphabet.
I was in the cafe for about 2hours and I discovered a whole lot that was around me. There was mothers pushing prams up and down the docks, people in the cafe talking about politics and general entertainment news like for example "hey mate do like that new iphone"
"yeah looks brilliant "
"Yeah because I was thinking of getting one"
little conversations like that cropped up a lot during my time in the cafe.
I still have to look at more artists that use this style. I have an idea of creating a old style type writer font and maybe printing out strips that would be the dialog of the people around and having it dipped in coffee?; its still on the maybe side of my thoughts but literally the clearest idea i have so far.
In the meanwhile I will draw out a preliminary design of what the outcome might look like.

Bs1 area session 2
Wednesday 28th September 2011
The next lesson was at 1.30 down at the watershed in Bs1 start of the project. Oli Timmins took over today saying about how we can incorporate something to our work such as , pencil rubbings, photos and collages to present the work. I went around in my group taking photos of an accidental alphabet and as well around the museums to give us indication of bristol's past history. It is something that has engaged me to work on either doing about the slave trade or how signage has developed from those times to looking at todays times.
I looked at lots of different types around the area and was still deciding on a topic to put in to a collage. i managed to take photos of an accidental alphabet here they are

alphabet completed
Finally Ive completed my Alphabet
I am very pleased that I finally managed to find all of the letters. It was a very difficult challenge but it has made me view the obvious in a different light. After going back and forth to town I have also realized even more Letters around the city centre. I managed to gradually get better by concentrating.
I was pleased with getting the H as I used the leaves that were scattered around on the ground, I believe at the time I was researching the works of Stefan Sagmiester, like for example the coins he used to make a huge typography piece.
As I have achieved the whole of the alphabet I could arrange thses pictures into a typeface of my own and use it to present my work. However I will continue to research more artists to back it up.

Down town

Bs1 visit 4
Today I've managed to take a lot more photos than before and from the last lesson I managed to structure out my approach. I wanted to target the alphabet and I believe thats all of the letters now. The disappointing thing is that the weather was very poor and I couldn't get the rubbings i wanted as it was rain very heavily.
one to one with oli
Wednesday 2nd November 2011
one to one meeting
Today I had all of my work with me in class and spoke to oli of what I want to achieve.
For section 1
- I've made a Visual Journey from looking at the many different pavement arrangements, shapes and particular patterns.
- For a Sense of place I'm going to create a relationship between modern and old boats/ships in a digital space.
- The Accidental alphabet is going really well I've managed to uncover most of the letters it's only just a couple left now.
- A Collage is going ok, but still my outcomes are somewhat lots in translation as i'm either doing too much or too little. So at the moment it's trial and error.
I now know that i will have to put more into the collage as well as the cafe brief. At the moment artists references are definitely key to me getting more motivated into producing an outcome I'm completely happy with.
I will continue with getting everything in order before the group presentation.

3D Type Artists/creating a 3D Letter (P)
Wednesday 5th October 2011
3D Type
Today's lesson we were introduced to another power point presentation showing various artists of 3d creation. It was very interesting how you can create with just the bits of cardboard and strips of tape. It was almost like another point or idea i could maybe think if during the time i have with the project of graphical intervention; maybe using cardboard to put in the water how the reflection has turned out and also taking in the nature element around it.
Stefan Sagmiester
This shows how much you can push the boundaries creating a piece of work such as this. Who would have thought about using coins, this really amazes me. From stefan's other work he seems to enjoy working in the environment like for example. His work like "Keeping a diary supports personal development" and "Looking good limits my life" these other pieces show how he doesn't always use one method wether it's wood, a cactus, foiled installation ; he tries out different variations to so how diverse his work can be.
Yulia Brodskaya
Here is another piece, but this is showing a whole spectrum of colours. This image shows type and other objects around that almost are like subliminal messages. The great thing about this piece is that the shadows will all of the colours get blended onto the white background and gives it a defined look. I will continue to look into how she creates these amazing shapes and apply this method within my project as the outcomes look unbelievable. Something that's created by hand gets more appreciation in terms with getting the resources such as card , working where to bend it and also how to present it as the whole piece. A very great artists and very captivating productions.
This piece created by Stefan Sagmiester is pure genius. It shows pure graphical intervention within the environment and using the coins of four different shades is a very bold challenge in comparison to his other work. I have read about this project that " Over the course of eight days and with the help of more than 100 volunteers, 250,000 euro-cent coins were sorted into four different shades and carefully placed over this 300-square-meter area" -http://www.segd.org/design-awards/5200/5223.html

Yulia Brodskaya
Yulia Brodskaya a graphic designer with an artistic element of creating in a 3d environment. Her work consists of making paper/card cuts and making an interesting outcome. I really enjoy looking at these pieces of work as i have seen countless of design in this style but either done in photoshop or illustrator. As its a hands on approach she can get different outcomes, when choosing to photograph the work she has produced.
This piece I have chosen shows a great style of negative space as well as creativity, the use of only blends of colours such as white, turquoise and dark blue give it that element that everyone will appreciate. I especially like the shadows casting on the page as it makes the picture standout by far; also an effect that is easily created in photoshop, this was maybe a more harder photo shoot of getting the right amount of lighting.
